Fundada en el *siglo XVIII* por el sultán _Muley Mohamed ben Abdallah_, se desarrolló como un importante **puerto comercial** que conectaba [[Reino de Marruecos|Marruecos]] con *Europa*, *África* y otros territorios del Atlántico. <mark style="background:rgba(240, 200, 0, 0.2)">Esauira</mark> destaca por su **medina amurallada**, sus *fortificaciones*, su *puerto* pesquero y la característica arquitectura blanca y azul de la ciudad histórica. La medina está inscrita en el _Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la UNESCO_ y constituye uno de los conjuntos urbanos históricos *mejor conservados* de la costa atlántica marroquí.
